Cost Saving Problem Solvers
Milwaukee, WI Based punch and die manufacturer AW Precision LLC has announced its latest range of problem solving Nitrogen gas springs.
These Gas Springs have been developed over the last few years to solve the problems that die builders and stampers some times experience. The range of problem solvers covers controlled speed return, Low pressure increase and lockable Gas Springs to give customers cost effective solutions.
AW latest range include the GA model, this allows the gas spring to return at a controlled speed where pad bounce may be an issue, this may be experienced on the new higher speed link drive presses or large transfer dies where panel miss location may occur. GA models come with initial forces ranging from ¾, 1 ½, 3 and 5 ton with strokes from 2 inches up to 12 inches. SPM is between 8 and 12.
This system has been successful in reducing pad bounce in several large tier 1 suppliers Based in Europe and is often added at a later date when the die go’s in to production and press ram return speed increases.
W range Gas Springs offers the customer a low pressure increase Gas spring that will only increase its pressure 15% maximum over its entire stroke length which is idea for deep draw applications. Again the range of initial forces start from ¾, 1 ½, 3 and 5 ton and strokes ½ up to 6 ¼ inches.
The newest range of unit is currently under extensive field test; this is the latest lockable gas spring which is totally self contained and over comes the problems associated with heat generation experienced by other Gas spring companies.
AW’s current dead stop system CP range will allow the gas spring to be locked on bottom dead centre, only returning when a signal is given from the press. These systems are used to reduce the number of dies required especially on double draws such as kitchen sinks, baby blank holders etc.
Initial forces for the CP range are 1, 2 ½ and 5 ton.
Similar systems in the past have been bulky and especially cost prohibitive. Some of the main problems associated with current systems on the market are
High temperature Low SPM due to these temperature problems. Extra cost is added due to external refrigeration systems needing to be added to run at higher SPM. Spring back can cause problems with quality of the stamped part; to over come this a 2 part system has to be used (active gas springs and passive units) this becomes bulky and costly.
Benefits of the new system AW Lockable system will be
Longer life, easy installation and maintenance One piece construction, so less space is needed with in the tool No hose systems, less chance of leaks Negative spring back if required Higher working temperatures and SPM with out the need for external cooling Significant cost reduction.
All of AW Nitrogen Gas Springs conform to PED 97/23/EC. For further information visit www.awprecision.com
